Several youths found themselves in hospital here after trying a new way to get high.
T h e y o u t h s s m o k e d incense in the misguided belief that it could offer the same intoxicating effect as marijuana or other drugs, said Fort St. John RCMP.
Some synthetic intoxicating drugs are marketed as “herbal incense” or synthetic marijuana, and the group believed their incense was similar, even though the label said that it was not for human consumption, said Cpl. Jodi Shelkie.
Several of the young people became very ill and some had to be sent to hospital, although all are expected to recover, Shel-kie said.
She said the incident offers parents a chance to discuss drug use with their children and to emphasize the danger of smoking anything claiming to offer a drug-like high. She could not confirm where the incense was purchased.
